OPTIONAL EXTRAS

Should you wish, additional excursions may be arranged on your behalf and for your own account. No matter what time of year, Cape Town is a popular tourist destination, so advanced bookings are advised. EduTourSA suggests the following excursions:

ROBBEN ISLAND: $25/person

Once a leper colony, a military base, a prison, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Robben Island is possibly best known for its famous residents, amoung them Nelson Mandela who spent 18 years incarcerated in a tiny cell on the island. Tour begins at the Robben Island Museum at the Waterfront where a high-speed yatch will take you to the island. There, previous political prisoners will be your tour guides. From personal experience, they will share their history of the island.

TOWNSHIP TOURS: approx. $35/person

Walking tours of the Cape's informal settlements, the townships, is an eye-opening experience. Visit with residents, and see how over 2 million people live in Cape Town, and learn about how the government has been addressing the issue of substandard housing. Learn about the Xhosa culture, visit a school, and even try gumboot dancing.

SHARK DIVING: approx. $100/person

A bucket list item for sure! Gaansbaai, a short trip from Cape Town, is offen touted as the Great White Shark capital of the world. Here, get up and personal with Great White Sharks from the safety of your submerged shark cage. All scuba equipment is provided, and no special training is required...just nerves of steel!
